Flying squirrels are generally an outdoor creature that cause little to no problem for nearby residents. However, they are known to occasionally make themselves at home in a residence, where they can cause property damage to wires, insulation, drywall, and leave unwelcome deposits of urine and droppings.
Signs of an infestation include chewing marks on wires, walls, and insulation, droppings, urine, and rustling sounds in the walls. Prevention includes simply sealing off any points of entry, including chimneys, and keeping tree limbs cut back about 8’ from one’s roof. If an infestation develops, it is imperative to contact professional pest control to properly inspect the home, safely and legally remove the animal(s), and thoroughly close off suspected points of entry.
