SPOOKED BY BLOOD SUCKING PESTS

October 26, 2016

While bats are most often associated as being bloodthirsty vampires, there are many other pests that search for humans and other warm-blooded mammals to feed on their blood. Many of the bloodsucking insects torment humans and some even transmit diseases. While there are many differences in the details of these various insects, there is one thing they all have in common – They are classified as bloodsucking parasites of humans or other host animals.

Before inspiration for Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, ever came about, insects have been biting humans to feed on their blood. These vampire bugs are not specifically out to hurt humans, but rather they need human blood for their basic survival and reproduction of their species. Although this realization does not take away the painful itchy bites or the disgust and fear that humans hold towards these tiny creepy crawlers, it is basic factor to remember when dealing with an infestation. Some common bloodsucking insects that cause infestation problems for many people include:

  • Mosquitoes
  • Ticks
  • Fleas
  • Head Lice
  • Chicken Mites
  • Bed Bugs
